Lightner Creek Wildfire

Durango Fire and Rescue responded to a blaze west of Durango, off Lightner Creek Road, on County Road 208 at approximately 12:15 pm Wednesday, June 27, 2012.  The fire is burning on private land and the Perins Peak State Wildlife Area.   The fire has burned approximately 80 acres as of about 3 p.m.

Little Sand Fire Activity

Little Sand Fire Update

Wednesday, June 27, 2012 7:30 pm

Overall activity was quiet today. Incident Operations reported some light moisture over the fire and generally cooler conditions. On the southwest perimeter, fire has begun to move west of the Davis Creek drainage into an area previously treated with prescribed burns. It remains north of the Piedra River.

Resources assigned to the Little Sand Fire assisted the San Juan National Forest with response to two very small fires caused by last night's lightning activity.

Escarpment Fire

Escarpment Fire Near Mesa Verde

The Escarpment Fire, is burning on Ute Mountain Ute land northwest of Mesa Verde National Park, has a crew on ground, single engine air tanker, helicopters holding the fire at 40 acres.   

The Wildfire on Haycamp Mesa is contained.

Lightner Creek Fire Update 3pm

The Lightner Creek Fire is now estimated at 80 acres.  Durango Fire and Rescue Chief Dan Noonan reports that the slurry line at the top is holding well, but there is growth at mid slope and to the north.  The fire is burning on private property on the side of Barnroof Mountain near CR 208 (Dry Fork Road).

Lightner Creek Fire Update

Lightner Creek Fire is located 1.5 mi up from the junction of County Roads 207 (Lightner Creek)/208 (Dry Fork). Two helicopters and a single engine airtanker are working to keep the fire from spreading uphill.  Pre-evacuation orders for 60 homes on CR 207/208.  Durango Zone Interagency Type III Team on scene, engines from Durango Fire and Rescue, Upper Pine and Fort Lewis Mesa.  CR 207/208 are closed.  Still estimated at 25 acres.

Lightner Creek Fire

According to Fire Chief Dan Noonan, Durango Fire and Rescue has responded to a blaze west of Durango, off Lightner Creek Road, on County Road 208.  The fire is burning on private land and the Perins Peak State Wildlife Area.  Noonan says the fire has already burned approximately 30 acres, and wind is pushing the fire west.  Noonan says over 20 fire engines have already responded to the blaze, and air support is being diverted from the Weber Fire.  A pre-evacuation notice has been issued for residents on County Road 207 and 208.  We will have more information on this fire as it becomes avail
