Ring in the New Year with KSUT!

Music programming takes center stage as we welcome 2015 at Four Corners Public Radio. We'll celebrate Dylan's seminal Blood on the Tracks, honor the musicians who passed in 2014, and look back at some of the best Music Blend releases.

  Here's a rundown of KSUT's year-end programming:

Wednesday, December 31:

3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. - Capitol Steps: Politics Takes a Holiday 2014 (preempts the KSUT Afternoon Blend)
Help say good-bye and good riddance to 2014, with the Capitol Steps and their annual year-end review. This year features all-new awards: “Is that guy jumping the White House fence or is he just really into Michelle’s ‘Get Moving’ campaign?” “You say ISIS, I say ISIL. Let’s call the whole thing off.” And of course, “I scream, you scream, we all scream EBOLA.”

7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. - Tales of the New West
Ring out the old year with a sober acknowledgment of the role weed, whiskey, and wine play in songwriting. Strictly for literary purposes, of course...

9:00 p.m. - 1:00 a.m. - Toast of the Nation
The New Year’s tradition continues with a visit to the Newport Jazz Festival, Winter Jazzfest, New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles.

Thursday, January 1:

9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. - Right on Target, So Direct: Bob Dylan's 'Blood on the Tracks' (preempts the KSUT Morning Blend)
A 40th anniversary celebration and exploration of Blood on the Tracks, the Bob Dylan album voted his best in a Rolling Stone magazine fan survey. Shawn Colvin, Mary Gauthier, Peter Mulvey, music writers, and fans offer comments about Dylan's 1975 release. Host Paul Ingles also talks with some of the Minneapolis studio musicians who were surprised to be called in to work with Bob Dylan in the last week of December 1974. They ended up re-recording half of an album that Dylan had seemingly finished only three months earlier.

11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. - Dearly Departed: The Musicians We Lost In 2014 (preempts the KSUT Morning Blend)
The show people are dying to get on.  A look back at the amazing array of music legends and personalities who departed in 2014, including Pete Seeger, Phil Everly, Bobby Womack, Jesse Winchester, Jack Bruce, Shirley Temple, Paul Revere, Horace Silver, Gerry Goffin, Bobby Keys, Tommy Ramone, Jimmy Ruffin, and Johnny Winter.

12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. - World Cafe
David Dye reviews the best World Cafe performances of 2014, and looks ahead to what we can expect in the New Year with NPR Music’s Ann Powers.

2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. - The Best of the Blend
A look back at some favorite Music Blend releases from 2014 - yours and ours.
