R. Carlos Nakai to play KSUT

Native American flute master to drop by our studios Thursday for a live performance and conversation.
R. Carlos Nakai will drop by the KSUT studios this Thursday, July 9. The interview and performance will be simulcast on both Four Corners Public Radio and Southern Ute Tribal Radio. Nakai is in the Four Corners to play Tara Mandala Retreat Center in Pagosa Springs July 11. 

Nakai has been playing Native American flute since the early 1980s, following a formal education in classical trumpet and music theory.

Since 1983, he's released more than 50 albums, including the Platinum-selling Canyon Trilogy, and played throughout the U.S., Europe, and Japan in both solo and collaboration settings.

He continues to play in the genres of Native American and classical, and also plays an ethnic-styled jazz with his R. Carlos Nakai Quartet.

R. Carlos Nakai is of Navajo-Ute heritage and holds a Master's Degree in American Indian Studies from the University of Arizona.
