More Lightning Activity for Firefighters

DURANGO – July 15, 2013, 9:45 AM - Firefighters are on the scene this morning of three wildfires sparked by lightning yesterday, with several other starts reported contained as of last night.  The Devil Fire is estimated today at two acres near Devil Creek on the Southern Ute Reservation.  Ground crews were on the scene overnight, and additional ground crews and air support are working the fire today.  Three other 1/10th-of-an-acre wildfires on the Southern Ute Reservation west of the La Plata Highway are either reported controlled or contained.

Near Vallecito, an engine crew is working the Wisko Fire this morning, which was reported yesterday on the west end of Grassy Mountain at 1/10th of an acre.

Near Pagosa Springs, firefighters reported the Chris Mountain Fire contained last night at 1/10th of an acre and are on the scene this morning conducting mop-up operations.  The Palisades Fire near Poison Park was contained last night at 1/10th of an acre, and the Airport Fire northeast of Stevens Field was contained yesterday at 2/10th of an acre.
