The annual CMJ Music Marathon is exactly that — a marathon, not a sprint. As hundreds of bands from all over the world descend on New York City in the middle of October, it's easy to feel like you have to see as many of them as quickly as you possibly can.
Whether you're attending the festival or not, we recommend you consider the opinions of people immersed in this music: college-radio music directors from across the country. We asked the staff at 11 stations to tell us what CMJ-showcasing artists they're most excited about right now, and now present their choices in this 24-hour mix.
So, while you may or may not be sprinting from Bar Matchless in Brooklyn to Pianos on the Lower East Side to catch 15 minutes of a band you're dying to see, remember that you're here for the week-long haul. Stay hydrated, remember your badge (or your skills to sweet-talk your way past a bouncer), and keep your ears open for surprises.
