Michael Kiwanuka, 'Black Man In A White World'

In the internet age, where subtlety is more luxury than normality, Michael Kiwanuka's video for "Black Man In A White World" presents a simple message with a lasting effect. Directed by Hiro Murai, the video shows a black man dancing in the middle of the street. Suddenly, a police car crashes into another car behind him, and he begins to ascend into the sky. At a time when issues of race are more urgent than ever, this video alludes to the spectre of police brutality without either explicitly criticizing or objectifying it. The goal here is to begin a conversation; Murai avoids preachiness by allowing the artistry of the video to speak for itself.

Directed by Hiro Murai.
