Every year, the Native American Music Awards, or NAMA, recognizes the achievements of Native American musicians in the United States and Canada. The organization was founded in 1998 and awards Nammys to both Native and non-Native performers.
NAMA nominees are chosen by a national panel of advisers, and the winners selected by both the panel and the general public. Voting for each year's awards begins in late-summer, with the ceremony usually held in November in Upstate New York.
