Join us Monday morning for three hours of special programming. We'll hear the storytelling of veterans, trace the route of Steinbeck, and learn what happens when humans and habitat meet.
Join KSUT Monday June 3 for special Memorial Day programming from 9:00 a.m. to noon. The Monday Morning Blend will be preempted.
9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.: Hearing Voices: For the Fallen
The voices of veterans remembering their comrades: We'll hear from troops returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, as they read their emails, poems, and journals. We'll hear interviews from StoryCorps, and an essay from This I Believe. And we'll attend the daily 'Last Post' ceremony by Belgian veterans honoring the WWI British soldiers who died defending a small town in western Belgium.
10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.: Travels with Mike: In Search of America 50+ Years After the War
Fifty-plus years after John Steinbeck's trip around America and resulting book, Travels With Charley, radio producer John Biewen retraced Steinbeck's steps with a microphone. In each place, he collaborated with an artist who’s deeply grounded in that place. Travels with Mike comprises a series of conversations, across time, between a great American writer of the last century and a diverse array of contemporary artists — conversations about issues, place, and the spirit of the country.
11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.: Humanature
Celebrate the (almost) arrival of summer with a one-hour special produced by Wyoming Public Media about how humans interact with habitat: a man in the wilderness searches a lake for a missing boater, a recovering alcoholic sets out to canoe the whole Missouri River, and a fishing retreat helps heal a woman with a secret.
