Joanna Newsom, 'Sapokanikan'

In the five years since she released the triple-album Have One On Me, Joanna Newsom tried to pack her harp into a hatchback for a Portlandia sketch, sang on "Kindness Be Conceived" by Thao And The Get Down Stay Down, and starred in and narrated the 2014 film Inherent Vice. Coming off their movie work together, Paul Thomas Anderson directs this winter stroll through a New York City village for "Sapokanikan," a song from the forthcoming Divers. It's quintessentially Joanna Newsom: a twisty-turny, piano-driven song full of swelling horns and glockenspiel.

Divers comes out Oct. 23 on Drag City.
