LINDA WERTHEIMER, HOST:

Time now for our music project, Heavy Rotation. Each month NPR Music asks Public Radio hosts and program directors to name a favorite new tune, and each month we feature one of those picks. Today our pick comes from AllDayPlay.fm, which is a project of Youth Radio that streams live from Oakland.

MIKE BIGGS: My name is DJ Mike Biggs. For this month's Heavy Rotation, my pick is "Bridge and Tunnel," by the New York City synth pop duo Holy Ghost!

(SOUNDBITE OF MUSIC)

BIGGS: Holy Ghost! is a duo out of New York that makes sort of what you could call punk funk 'cause it's these guys that kind of look and sort of have a vibe of a rock or a punk group, but they're doing it to kind of a disco felt beat.

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG)

BIGGS: I've been rocking it pretty steadily at my DJ gigs. It just sounds so fresh and so good, but yet kind of retro. It's catchy.

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG)

BIGGS: It's definitely a bit of a love letter to New York. It's also kind of an anthem for really the homesick.

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG)

BIGGS: These guys, I imagine, must tour all over the world, and if you've been away from your home touring for that long, you're going to get really homesick, especially if you live in a place like New York City. And so when it comes around to the chorus, it's like, ah, back to New York City, true love. No place like home.

WERTHEIMER: That's DJ Mike Biggs of AllDayPlay.fm. That's a project of Youth Radio. His pick for heavy rotation is "Bridge and Tunnel" by Holy Ghost! And you can find more heavy rotation music picks at NPR.org. This is NPR News. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
