Chris Thile Debuts as Host of A Prairie Home Companion This Saturday on KSUT

American Public Media

Mandolin master Thile fills Garrison Keillor's shoes with new shows featuring a mix of well-known and up-and-coming musicians, sketch comedy, and spoken word.

A Prairie Home Companion will continue its tradition of being the only live music and variety show aired nationwide, featuring a blend of music, comedy, and storytelling.

Each week, Thile will be joined by a cast of regular performers and musicians. Bandleader Richard Dworsky is on piano, Chris Eldridge on piano, Brittany Haas on fiddle, Paul Kowert on bass, and Ted Poor on drums.

Sarah Jarosz and Aoife O'Donovan join the band as duet partners.

Actor Tim Russell returns, as does sound effects man Fred Newman.

The show will continue with favorite features like Powdermilk Biscuits, the Catchup Advisory Board, and Beebopareebop Rhubarb Pie and Frozen Rhubarb Filling

The inaugural show of A Prairie Home Companion with Chris Thile (October 15) features music guests Lake Street Dive and Jack White, live from the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul.

Next week (October 22), guests include Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats and John Hodgman. And on October 29, Thile is joined by Dawes and Esperanza Spalding.
