A Once-in-a-Generation Opportunity
This is a very exciting time for KSUT Public Radio and for our community. For the first time in our 42-year history, KSUT is embarking on a three-phased capital campaign. Phase 1 consists of renovating an existing building in Ignacio to create our new home, named the Eddie Box Jr. Media Center; Phase II will establish a Local News and Public Affairs Tribal Media and Training Program; and Phase III will establish the Carlos Sena Legacy Fund, an endowment program to ensure KSUT remains strong and relevant for another 42 years and beyond. To date, we have raised over $4.0 million toward the goal of $5.5 million for our multi-phased capital campaign.
The Eddie Box Jr. Media Center and the $1 Million Matching Challenge
Through the generosity of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe, we have been presented with the opportunity to repurpose a 5,000 sq. ft. building a few hundred feet from our current location in Ignacio. The new building will nearly quadruple our available space and will finally support the production, broadcasting, performance, and work spaces we have sorely needed for many years.
In addition to rent-free use of this building, Tribal Council has offered $1 million in matching funds to renovate the building on the condition that we raise an equal sum in community support. We are over half-way toward that goal and need to raise an additional $400,000 in new gifts and pledges by October 1 of this year. This is an all-or-nothing extraordinary opportunity for KSUT and our region!
