“The blues was bleeding the same blood as me.”

Music giant B.B. King passed away Thursday evening. KSUT remembers the man and his music with special programming this Sunday and Tuesday.
NPR's Tom Cole wrote in a remembrance published Friday, "It seemed as if he'd go on forever." And indeed, B.B. King, the consummate working musician, was touring and fishing almost to the very end.

Riley B. King died at his Las Vegas home Thursday night at the age of 89.

KSUT will honor the man and his music with special programming:

Sunday May 17 at 5:00 p.m., we'll air a re-broadcast of the public radio special Riding With the Kind.

The show was produced in 2005, as B.B. was celebrating his 80th birthday. He'd just released a new record and completed his first vacation after 57 years on the road. The King of the Blues was vibrant and excited as he looked back on his eight decades on the planet. Keb' Mo' hosts the rebroadcast. We'll hear from B.B. himself, along with cameos from Buddy Guy, Carlos Santana, and Koko Taylor.

And Tuesday May 19 at 7:00 p.m., KSUT's Barrelhouse Blues will explore the music of B.B. King, his influences, and his impact on countless musicians.

Riding With the King: A Birthday Tribute to B.B. King airs Sunday at 5:00 p.m. The Barrelhouse Blues B.B. King Special airs Tuesday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
