Black History Month programming on KSUT

Association for the Study of African American Life and History

KSUT honors Black History Month with special programming, Mondays at noon in February.

We'll air two specials on black history from the public radio show State of the Reunion, and another that explores the impact of black radio in the Civil Rights era.

Here's the rundown of Black History Month programming on KSUT:

Monday February 9 at 12:00 p.m.: "State of the Reunion: Leadership From the Ground Up." We'll meet a new generation of African-American leaders, people who are rolling up their sleeves and diving into what can be unglamorous work to strengthen their communities.

Monday February 16 at 12:00 p.m.: "State of the Reunion: Defining Black History" - An exploration of differing versions of black history. We'll explore the impact of the Civil Rights Act on one Mississippi town, visit an Oklahoma city still trying to come to grips with a race riot, and meet a woman who is wrestling with her own racial history.

Monday February 23 at 12:00 p.m.: "Going Black: The Legacy of Philly Soul Radio" - This documentary goes inside the legacy of Black radio, and how stations in Philly, Memphis, and elsewhere changed American culture in the 1950s and '60s. These stations became the voices of their communities during the Civil Rights era, playing records and reporting news not heard on mainstream radio.
