John Richards

John Richards is the host and producer of The Morning Show with John on 90.3 FM KEXP Seattle, and online at kexp.org. He is also KEXP's assistant program director.

Richards is the owner of his own record label (Loveless Records), does A&R work with the TAO Music Group, and undertakes an assortment of music consulting projects. He lives in Seattle, where he has a toddler who loves the Pixies.

If you aren't excited to have the loud, aggressive post-hardcore band Metz live on the air with you, then you might as turn in your headphones. All early reports back from listeners and fellow DJs had been that the Toronto band brings it live, and in the studio at KEXP, Metz did just that. Alex Edkins' ferocious vocals and guitar work, Chris Slorach's rumbling bass and Hayden Menzies' pummeling drums all added up to one of the loudest and best sessions I've seen this year.

Shovels And Rope: The Spotlight Awaits

Sometimes you just know that a band isn't going to have to wait long before it reaches the stardom you think it deserves. Earlier this year, a friend sent me the new album from Shovels & Rope before it had been released. I'd requested it after seeing a video for "Birmingham," which shows the duo's members — Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent — playing the song as their dog runs around. I had to watch the video again just to confirm that the song was as great at I thought it might be. The second time confirmed it, and I immediately started playing it on my show.
